New Book!

Firefighting with Henry's Model T
By Bill Killen, CFO, MIFirE (ODHFS Member)

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Model T Ford, which was officially introduced to the world in October 1908 and remained in production until May 1927. There were over 15,000,000 vehicles produced during that period and the Ford Motor Company continued to build engines and some parts for that vehicle until 1941. That production record held for many years and the impact that all those automobiles made in America has lasted even longer. The Model T Ford chassis was one of the most widely used commercial chassis for motorized fire apparatus in the 1920's.

Over a thousand books have been written about the Model T Ford and hundreds of books have been written about fire trucks and the fire service, since 1908, when the Model T was introduced. None of those books were specifically written to recognize the Model T Ford's contributions to the fire service.

Firefighting with Henry's Model T features hundreds of color and black and white photographs of fire apparatus built on Ford Model T chassis by more than twenty American and Canadian fire apparatus builders.

The proceeds from the sale of Firefighting with Henry's Model T
will benefit the:

International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
The National Fire Heritage Center
The Model T Ford Club of America Museum

Order Form (.pdf file - 23kb)

Thank you for your support, Bill Killen, CFO, MIFirE

APPARATUS HISTORY
by Mike Sanders (ODHFS Member)

A new book from Arcadia Publishing on the fire and rescue
apparatus history of Loudoun County, VA will be available through

trucks to today’s modern fire and rescue vehicles. The photographs depict a time when departments struggled to raise funds and provide protection to their communities. This Images of America book shows how far fire and rescue departments have come to ensure the protection of life and property in Loudoun County.
