SPAAMFAA’s Summer Convention at Middletown is now in the record books, Fairchester Hose Haulers hosted the event with tours to local destinations and the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City. Saturday’s event had well over 250+ pieces of fire equipment on display. There were some magnificently restored early pieces which members brought and displayed. The FDNY Super Pumper even came to the event. Now is the time for some southern hospitality coming up in Alabama for the winter muster in February 2017, see the web site for details.
Your Board is making new strides and moving us forward, we just had great input from our third Presidents’ Strategic Planning meeting for the future. New suggestions for our future direction were added to those gathered from previous meetings, some of which we are immediately working on getting implemented. Understand this is a total board effort and requires a board meeting to make changes, which can only happen twice a year. We are working hard as a whole to improve communications with you, the members. National sends a great deal of information to the Chapter presidents. If you belong to a Chapter, make sure the information gets disseminated at your meetings.
Presently, we have only two future musters planned for winter and summer of 2017. We are looking for sites for the 2018 calendar, Hint… Southern California would be great for Winter of 2018 since it will be 9 years from the last great event there in 2009.
The 2016 Robinson award is being given to Len Williams, our past Treasurer for 20+ years. Congratulations Len for your endless contributions to SPAAMFAA for so many years.
In order to better recognize those members on a regional basis, the board has decided to establish a new “Spirit of SPAAMFAA” award to be given to a person who is a National member for their contributions more on a local basis. This will be given by the Trustee responsible for the region once a year, for a local nominated person for the region who meets the goals of this award.
Due to the fact we only issued two SPAAMFAA plaques this past year, the board has decided to eliminate this program in favor of the new “Spirit of SPAAMFAA” award, which we are sure will be much more appreciated.
For the first time in many years SPAAMFAA now has an approved budget, with some future modifications to be made, and I am proud to say this year we are in the black with expenses verses revenues. We also sincerely appreciate all of you that have contributed to SPAAMFAA’s much needed special funds for the archive and endowment this year.
SPAAMFAA has regained ownership of the archives our most valuable asset, which now resides at ATHS in Kansas City. Steve Heaver reported at the BOD meeting the first portion of the on-line access to the Archives index and some drawings should be available by the end of August, via the secure member section of our web site. Stay tuned for more information on the progress. This year we received approximately $1900 towards the general fund and a small amount for the Archives. Archive funds are much needed to digitize and organize materials for easy access for now and future generations. Your contributions are restricted and can only be used for this purpose, please consider giving to this great cause when renewing your membership.
P.S. The Nomination Committee, David Napier, Ron Czaplicki, Ray Bennett, and David Krumpka, are looking for a few good people. The positions of President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, one Eastern Trustee, one Western Trustee are open. So far we have a "willingness to serve" for the position of President and one Eastern Trustee in hand. The deadline for getting in the willingness to serve paper is September 30, 2016. Please send this to email@example.com
