2017 Apple Blossom Firefighters Parade & Display Report
Sun. May 7th 2017

For the third year in a row the Apple Blossom Firefighters activities got off to a wet start with rain during the Thursday night Welcome & Open House hosted by Winchester Fire at the Shawnee Fire Station. It rained all night and it was raining when we all got up on Friday morning too. The event is organized and planned with the weather in mind - It's rain or shine! That said units started making their way to the muster grounds at Millwood High & Elementary Schools. The rain slowed down and by late morning the rain had stopped. The judges inspected each vehicle arriving at the muster and ODHFS members had a chance to network and check out the apparatus. The general public showed up in droves and everyone enjoyed the display. Around 2pm the drivers meeting was held to organize the trip to downtown Winchester for the parade and to award some prizes for the Antique Division. The rain started up again as the caravan of fire apparatus moved downtown with the help of an escort from several Virginia State Police Troopers. As we all parked on South Cameron Street it was raining hard. The rain stopped a little while later and the sun came out before the parade started at 5:30pm!
