OBITUARY: ROMAYNE KELLY ASHLEY - Wife of ODHFS Member Dave Ashley

The ODHFS membership extends condolences to Dave Ashley and other family members on the recent loss of his wife. May she rest in peace.  

ROMAYNE KELLY ASHLEY OBITUARY                              

Romayne Kelly Ashley of Rochelle, VA passed away on August 9, 2017 at the age of 66 at the University of Virginia Hospital, with her husband by her side. 

Romayne was born on Nov. 12, 1950 in Washington D.C to the late Arthur & Bernice Krop of Arlington, Va. She was a baptized and confirmed Lutheran. She was raised in Arlington and lived there for 28 years until her marriage to Mike Kelly in 1978. The next 23 yrs. she lived in Herndon, Va. where she raised and provided loving care to her son, Brian, until his death in 1996. In 1999, Romayne took her mother out of a nursing home and brought her home. She wanted to provide the love and care that she wanted for her mother. 

After her mother’s death in 2002, Romayne moved to Front Royal, Va. She lived there 6 months until her marriage to Dave Ashley, in 2003. They moved to Culpeper where they lived for 2 yrs. and then to Madison, Va. in 2005.   

Romayne is survived by her beloved husband Dave, who she met in 1993 and married in 2003; her two cherished dachshunds, Molly and Sugar; a stepson Michael {Julie}, Two Step grandchildren Blake and Bizzie of Ashburn, Va., a sister, Shirley Donato and her husband Tony of Melbourne Florida; and a brother, Larry Krop of Great Falls, Va. Other survivors include five nephews and three nieces.

Romayne was preceded in death by her infant daughter Kristen, in 1986; her teenage son Brian, in 1996; her sister-in-law, Pauline Krop in 1989; and her kidney donation recipient, Preston J. (PJ) Morris in 2006.

Services were held on August 11 & 12, 2017. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nca/corps17/Mashley, in memory of her son, Brian Kelly, so that no other mother should have to bear the loss of their child to cancer. OR, to the Alzheimer’s Association at:  P.O. Box 96011 Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, in memory of her mother, Bernice Krop.
