IFBA Region 3 Update
Sun. Nov 5th 2017

Good Morning IFBA Region 3 buffs and others:

Just wanted to give you a brief report of the IFBA E-board Conference call of Oct. 21, 2017.

Everything is going along pretty well. The By-laws committee is working of the logistics of updating the by-laws to reflect changes made in 2016.  This is more a wording issue rather that anything in the way of substantive changes.

We are also looking to expand our numbers through aggressive recruitment and retention. If anyone has any ideas please let me or Chris Oliphant know.

The information the E-Board wants to get out to the clubs includes:

    - Submit nominations for Fire Buff of the Year.

    - Submit articles for Turnout. A one page article is sufficient.   Even something from your website or other outreach efforts is fine. Pictures are also welcome.  Please provide captions or descriptions of what is happening in the pictures.  Pictures with clubs or club members in action would be great.

    - Submit applications for the "Website of the Year" award.  This award was won by the ODHFS this year.  Please look at their website and you will understand why they won and why they are  proud of their efforts.

    - Dues notices may come out electronically this year so BOLO.  Be sure the IFBA has the proper contact for dues and other correspondence.

Upcoming Conventions

2018----Racine Wisc., August 19 - 23, 2018. The convention will include a visit to Green Bay's Lambeau Field---home of the Frozen Tundra.  Visits are also scheduled to Pierce in Appleton and Oshkosh.  The convention will be at the Racine Architect Hotel.  I have never been to Racine, but those who have attended previous conventions in Racine give the city and the fire department excellent reviews.

2019---Montreal Quebec.  The folks in Montreal have already set up a huge parade and are very excited to host the convention in June of 2019.  I recently spoke with a ranking MFD Chief and he confirms that the Fire Department is cooperating and looking forward to the visit of the IFBA . The convention will be held in conjunction with the world famous Montreal Jazz Festival.

2020---Nashville Tenn.  Not much info yet , but again planning is well underway for a second consecutive convention with a music background'

2023--- As always the 10 year conventions (70th anniversary) will be held in Milwaukee.

That leaves a couple of years in there that maybe Region 3 would like to host a convention as a cooperative Region effort.

For anyone who has never attended an IFBA Convention I offer you $10.00 if you attend the convention and do not have a great time and/or make a new friend.

Those who want a firematic event in the winter may look at the SPAAMFAA Winter Convention to be held in the Orlando area in early Feb. 2018. The agenda is shaping up quite nicely.  Check the SPAAMFAA website for details.

As usual I would like to get out and meet with all the clubs for socialization and network..  I usually start attending meeting in November and by June I have gotten by each organization.  Please drop me a note regarding the schedule of your meetings or other events.

Finally if there are any changes in officers etc. please let me know so I can include them on my correspondence and we all know who the point of contact is.

Thank you. Have a great Holiday Season and as always, good and safe buffing. You can contact me by e-mail joewho4@aol.com or by phone at 703-754-4401 or 703-6602.
