ODHFS Northern Region Update - 11-17-2019
Fri. Nov 15th 2019

Hi folks,

Just wanted to share some miscellaneous news items as it relates to the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society (ODHFS) and our Northern Region.

New ODHFS Members

First up, we have had several new members join ODHFS.  A big welcome to Ed Bonham and Chris Bizjak.  Thank you gentlemen for your interest in ODHFS and we look forward to meeting you at a ODHFS event.

Congratulations Chris Shipe!

This was nice to see regarding our member Chris Shipe from Berryville.  I am using the information that I saw on a Facebook post as it does a great job in recognizing Chris:

“Chris Shipe was surprised Sunday afternoon to be named the 2019 Berryville-Clarke County Veteran of the Year. Clarke County Supervisors chair David Weiss presented the award during the Veterans Day program. The award is given to local veterans whose dedication to the nation and their communities does not end when their military service is complete. Chris served in the U.S. Army from 1983 to 1987 with the elite 2nd Armored Division. He is a volunteer firefighter with John H. Enders Fire and Rescue Company and served as Enders president for 10 years. Chris is a lay leader and chairman of the Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church Administrative Council. He is an active member and vice president of the Clarke County Community Band, and he supports many community organizations through service and financial contribution. Previous Veteran of the Year recipients are Norman deV. Morrison (2015), the late John F. Harris (2016), Michael L. Linster (2017), and Robert A. Freebee (2018). Their names are on a perpetual plaque located in the Berryville-Clarke County Government Center. Chris’s name will be added to the plaque.

Well done Chris!

Christmas Holiday Parades

The upcoming Christmas holiday season is presenting a number of different parades and events to consider being a part of, especially if you have an antique fire truck.  Over the last month you have seen a variety of emails regarding these events/parades.

The ODHFS web page calendar is a good resource -

Owners Pride

Some additions have been added to our ODHFS Owners Pride web page.  Check it out here:

That is it for this month.  Cold weather coming in and most leaves are now off the trees.  I know it is a bit early, however I hope you and your family and close friends have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday season.  We do have a lot to be thankful for.

Mike Sanders, Winchester, VA
Northern Region ODHFS Director
