ODHFS Northern Region Newsletter
Recent Member News:
The major Northern Region news for this month is we are now on ZOOM! We found the need to have Apple Blossom Committee meetings this way due to COVID restrictions and the distance of some of our members’ location. This can also be used by the Northern Region for other types of meetings, including our Annual Northern Region meeting next spring if needed.
No event participation reported by any Northern Region members this month. Don’t forget to report any events that you attend to me and also please record on the ODHFS Event Tracker on the ODHFS webpage. Don’t have a log-in for the webpage? Contact Jack Sullivan at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will set you up with a login.
Apple Blossom News:
All our forms and documents for the registration and judging have been submitted to the Apple Blossom office. At the present time, we are working as if the 2021 Apple Blossom Firefighters Parade is on track for next year. This could change due to many unknowns of COVID over the next few months. We’ll just adjust as best as possible at that time if needed.
We are looking for Northern Region members who would like to become part of the ODHFS Northern Region Apple Blossom Committee to help plan and work the event. We need to start having people in the wings to learn the various tasks to put on Apple Blossom in case something happens to anyone on the Committee.
It’s never too early to start signing up to help out at the event itself. We always need people for Safety Officers, Parking, Judges, Check-In and other tasks. Just contact me for more information or to volunteer.
Northern Region Workday:
Several months ago, the McLean VFD donated about 12 boxes of their old trophies and plaques to the ODHFS to re-purpose as needed for club events, sell to whoever may desire one, etc. These are currently stored in my garage. Looking to schedule a work day of going thru the boxes to evaluate and catalog the trophies. Due to the virus restrictions we’ll have to find a Saturday or Sunday with good weather. We will set up tables outside the garage, and have a limited number of people to help. Figuring on 3 to 4 hours to complete the task. Food and drinks will be provided. Contact me by e-mail or phone for more info.
The Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department in Loudoun County, Virginia, is starting a new tradition of creating a yearly Christmas ornament. This is a fund-raising activity for the department. A great way to start - with a 1980 Hahn engine. Thought I would share this with the group as there is a limited number available. The 1980 Hahn has been fully restored. If interested in the ornament: https://ashburnfirerescue.org/product/2020-limited-edition-avfrd-christmas-ornament/.
Also the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department is offering an Christmas ornament of their 1946 Maxim. See their webpage for more information. www.VVFD.org
