2024 ODHFS Statewide Muster Report

Spectacular weather welcomed the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society to Wilck’s Lake Island Park in Farmville VA for our annual Muster on Saturday October 12, 2004.

Mike Villanova attended the muster and brought along his video camera to catch all the activity throughout the day.

Eighty-three members and guests attended plus approximately 100 members of the community, including several children, visited throughout the day.

Twenty-seven antique fire apparatus were on display including three that put on a pumping show drafting from the lake.

Lunch for the attendees was provided by the Virginia Fire Museum which was followed by a membership meeting .

The following awards were presented:

  • The People’s Choice awards for the best appearing displays were:
    • 1st Place: 1939 GMC / Hunter Engine restored and owned by Mike Denbar

    • 2nd Place: 1980 Seagrave FDNY Ladder 61 owned by Todd Stone

    • 3rd Place: 1981 Chevrolet Mini-Pumper owned by Justin Overby

    • The President’s Award went to Randy Foster who’s
      1972 Mack Aerialscope displayed a large American Flag throughout the day.

    • The oldest motorized apparatus on display was a
      1923 REO Speedwagon owned by Dan Pempel

    • The oldest non-motorized apparatus on display
      was a 1900 Wirt/Knox Hose Reel owned by Chris Oliphant

  • The longest distance an apparatus was driven or hauled to the muster awards went to:
    • Tom Hooker and family for driving their 1965 Segrave 234 miles

    • Chis Oliphant for hauling his 1924 Bickle 168 miles.

    • Mike Denbar for hauling his 1939 GMC/Hunter 165 miles
