The Bob White Award

For many years, the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society (ODHFS) has recognized outstanding members for their dedication and exemplary contributions to the organization.

The Bob White Award is the highest honor bestowed by the ODHFS, presented annually at the ODHFS Annual Meeting. This award is named after Bob White, a devoted member who passed away suddenly in May 1995.

Selection Process

The ODHFS Board of Directors takes this award seriously, carefully nominating and selecting a recipient who demonstrates exceptional commitment to the organization.

Criteria for Nomination

To be considered for the Bob White Award, a nominee must:

Be a member in good standing of the ODHFS.

• Have contributed significantly during the preceding calendar year (not based on cumulative efforts over time).
• Help promote the ODHFS through event participation, specific projects, or volunteer efforts.
• Not be required to own a fire truck—this award is based on quality, not quantity, meaning it is not awarded simply to the member who attends the most events.

Nomination & Voting

• Regional Directors nominate candidates based on the above criteria.
• The Board of Directors votes on the nominees at the Annual Meeting.
• The award is then presented at the same meeting.
