ODHFS Central Region January ’23 Newsletter

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. My wife and I are slowly recovering in our quiet home after hosting 6 over the holidays including two grandchildren. We also rented a condo in Wintergreen for the grandkids from Hawaii to see snow for the first time and take ski lessons. I kept watch from the bar in the Ski Lodge.,

First I want to welcome our newest ODHFS member in the Central Region, Chris Day from South Prince George.

Next I have some good news. ODHFS WON the top Fire/Rescue award at the Chester Christmas Parade. We had 9 apparatus in the parade plus it didn’t hurt having Santa riding atop one of them.

ODHFS Central Region member Larry Peoples from Louisburg NC was recently featured on his local television news following the restoration of their
1921 American Lafrance engine nicknamed “Maude”. Here is a link to the report: Louisburg Maude

Later this week the ODHFS Officers and Directors will be having a Zoom meeting. If there is anything you need me to bring up or have questions about let me know by Tuesday.

You should be receiving your $15 dues renewal notice via mail soon. Please don’t just set it aside and then forget about it. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket and you want to pay now, you can send a check to ODHFS, P.O. Box 4196, Chester VA 23831 (Include a note on whose dues the check is for) OR you can renew on-line now at: https://www.odhfs.org/store.html (which does include a $1 processing fee).

Here is a list of upcoming events in the region and beyond:

  • January 21, 2023 Central Region Social / Meet & Greet / Pride and Polish Day at Keystone Tractor & Truck Museum, Colonial Heights. 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM. There is more information on our website calendar of events. One thing that is not on the flyer is that this event is also a de-facto fund-raiser for ODHFS. By giving the antique fire apparatus on display there a good cleaning and polishing each year, ODHFS gets to use the meeting space at the Museum for our annual meeting at a reduced price. Plus there’s more: You get to listen to many stories from Tommy Herman, John Hinant, George Mills, and others as we work.
  • April 1, 2023 ODHFS Annual Meeting More information to follow.
  • May 5, 2023 95th Annual Apple Blossom FireFighters Parade in Winchester. More information will be posted on the ODHFS website or you can contact Northern Region Director David Gantt at: racindave@msn.com
  • October 14, 2023 ODHFS Annual Muster Farmville VA. More information to follow.

I hope to see you on January 21st in Colonial Heights.
